Many of the ideas that will be enabled by high-speed broadband will have their genesis in activities that area already happening online today. Others will be the online replication of something that already happens in the real world.
Online trade shows represents both. Companies are already using online technologies to replicate the experience of a trade show, allowing them to set up and staff a display at a foreign event without ever stepping on a plane. While current efforts are a long way from accurately mimicking the real thing, they do point to a possible future – one that will only be enhanced by broadband technologies such as immersive virtual environments.
